Kde domov můj? (Where is My Home?) is the
national anthem of the
Czech Republic. It has been used since independence in
1993.
Under the old
Czechoslovakia, this song formed the first part of the national anthem, with the
Slovak anthem forming the second part.
It was written by the composer Frantisek Skroup[?] and the dramatist Josef Kajetan Tyl[?] as a part of the comedy Fidlovacka aneb zádný hnev a zádná rvacka. It was performed for the first time in the Stavovské Divadlo theatre in Prague on December 21, 1831.
Original Czech Lyrics
- Kde domov můj?
- kde domov můj?
- Voda hučí po lučinách,
- bory šumí po skalinách,
- v sadě skví se jara květ,
- zemský ráj to na pohled!
- A to je ta krásná země,
- země česká domov můj,
- země česká domov můj!
- Var är mitt hem?
- Var är mitt hem?
- Vatten brusar över ängarna,
- skogar susar över klipporna,
- i fruktträdgĺrden lyser vĺrens blommor,
- ett jordisk paradis för ögat!
- Och detta är det vackra landet,
- tjeckiska landet, mitt hem,
- tjeckiska landet, mitt hem!
- Where is my home?
- Where is my home?
- Water showers over the hills,
- Forests swish over the cliffs,
- In the garden the spring flowers shine,
- an Earthly paradise for the eye!
- And this is the beautiful country,
- Czech country, my home,
- Czech country, my home!
