Kaizers Orchestra

The norwegian rock band Kaizers Orchestra was formed in 2000. The two leading members, vocalist Janove Ottesen and guitarist Geir Zahl, had known each other for years and started their first band in 1991. The kaizer lineup:

• Janove Ottesen (vocals, guitar, piano, organ, oil drums)

• Geir Zahl (lead guitar, vocals, oil drums)

• Terje Vinterstøen (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, percussion)

• Rune Solheim (drums)

• Helge Risa (organ, piano)

• Jon Sjøen (acoustic bass)

Vinterstøen wasn't an original member, but he joined later in 2000.

Their first album, Ompa til du dør ("Ompa until you dies"), was released on the underground laben "Broiler farm[?]" in 2001. It became a succes, first in Norway, later in Denmark and the Netherlands. The second album, "Evig pint" ("Forever tortured"), was released early in 2003.

The music of Kaizers Orchestra is inspired by everything from Tom Waits' pessimistic lyrics and ompa-ompa to AC/DCs heavy metal. Their lyrics, written by Ottesen and Zahl, are all in Norwegian. They're one of Norways (and the worlds?) best live bands.
