Justice Society of America

The Justice Society of America, or JSA, was the very first superhero team. The team first appeared in 1940 in DC Comics' All Star Comics #3. The team disappeared from the newsstands as of 1951, but its better-known and longer-running successor, the Justice League of America (JLA), appeared in 1959 and still exists today.

The JSA has been revived several times in its own series. After its initial revival in 1963, the JLA and the JSA began a yearly series of team-ups which occurred every summer. In 1975 the team was revived with a handful of newer, younger members called the "Super Squad" in a continuation of All Star Comics.

An 8-issue mini-series followed by a 10-issue ongoing series in 1992 could not revive enough interest in the team to keep sales up. The JSA was once again revived in 1999 in a popular series which exists to this day.
