Judas Maccabaeus

Judas Maccabaeus (died 161 BC) was a Jewish leader who led a revolt in Judea agaist the Seleucid king, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, from around 167 BC. He thus recovered Jerusalem, dedicated the Temple anew, and protected Judaism from Hellenization.
