Joseph Menusa

Gunnery Seargeant Joseph Menusa (1969-2003) was a member of the First Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st. Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps. A resident of Tracy, California, Medusa was the first soldier from the Philippines to lose his life on the 2003 Iraq War when he was killed on March 27 at Nasiriya.

He graduated from a high school in San Jose, where he had grown up, in 1989, and soon after, he joined the Marines.

Seargeant Menusa was killed on the ninth anniversary of the day he began dating his wife Stacy. He was not a United States citizen, as he had failed to appear for his INS interview: He had been called to Hawaii on duty already.

Menusa had been stationed in many places around the world during his career with the Marines: He fought in the Gulf War, and he had been stationed in San Francisco, California, Cuba and Japan.

Medusa was survived by his father Michael, his mother Virginia,his wife and his three year old son Joshua.
