Joseph Gary

Joseph Gary has no connection to the city of Gary (Lake County), Indiana. Gary was named after Judge Elbert H. Gary. This Judge Gary was a business associate of J.P. Morgan, and the first president of U.S. Steel Corp. He hailed from, and lived in the eastern U.S. Judge Elbert H. Gary's only connection to Illinois was being involved in the purchase of the Carneige-Illinois steel company.
