John Playfair

John Playfair, 1748-1819, was a Scottish scientist. He helped Sir Charles Lyell in many experiments and researches and had many contributions to James Hutton.

In 1795 Playfair created an alternative formulation of Euclid's parallel postulate called Playfair's axiom.
