John Bell Williams (December 4, 1918 - March 25, 1983) was a
Mississippi politican. He graduated from
Ole Miss in 1938 and graduated Jackson Law School in 1940. In November 1941, he enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as pilot during
World War II; however, he retired from active service after lossing the lower part of his left arm after a bomber crash in 1944. Williams was a
Democratic U.S. Representative from 1947 until his resignation in January 1968 to become Mississippi governor (1968-1972).
