Johann Nepomuk Maelzel

Johann Nepomuk Maelzel (1772 - 1838) was an inventor, engineer, and showman, best known for manufacturing the metronome invented by Dietrik Nikolaus Winkel, and for the display of a fraudulent chess "machine", known as the Turk, which actually enclosed a small human chess player.
