Jessamine County, Kentucky

Jessamine County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 39,041. Its county seat is Nicholasville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 452 km² (174 mi²). 448 km² (173 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.76% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 39,041 people, 13,867 households, and 10,663 families residing in the county. The population density is 87/km² (226/mi²). There are 14,646 housing units at an average density of 33/km² (85/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.44% White, 3.13% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 1.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,867 households out of which 38.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.90% are married couples living together, 11.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.10% are non-families. 18.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.05.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.40% under the age of 18, 11.60% from 18 to 24, 31.10% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 9.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 96.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $40,096, and the median income for a family is $46,152. Males have a median income of $32,340 versus $23,771 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,842. 10.50% of the population and 8.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.70% are under the age of 18 and 9.90% are 65 or older.
