Jeff Davis County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 2,207. Its county seat is Fort Davis6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 5,865 km² (2,265 mi²). 5,865 km² (2,264 mi²) of it is land and 0 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.01% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,207 people, 896 households, and 632 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (1/mi²). There are 1,420 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 90.53% White, 0.91% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.17% from other races, and 2.99% from two or more races. 35.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 896 households out of which 27.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.80% are married couples living together, 6.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.40% are non-families. 26.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the county, the population is spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 5.30% from 18 to 24, 24.10% from 25 to 44, 30.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 104.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.40 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $32,212, and the median income for a family is $39,083. Males have a median income of $27,011 versus $21,384 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,846. 15.00% of the population and 14.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.10% are under the age of 18 and 19.60% are 65 or older.
