Jackson County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 11,268. Its county seat is Jackson6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,863 km² (719 mi²). 1,817 km² (702 mi²) of it is land and 46 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.47% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,268 people, 4,556 households, and 3,116 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (16/mi²). There are 5,092 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.07% White, 0.09% African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.38% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. 1.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,556 households out of which 29.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.00% are married couples living together, 5.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.60% are non-families. 28.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 7.00% from 18 to 24, 25.30% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 20.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 100.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $36,746, and the median income for a family is $43,426. Males have a median income of $29,123 versus $20,860 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,499. 8.60% of the population and 5.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.00% are under the age of 18 and 8.40% are 65 or older.
