Botanist, Physician and NaturalistJohann Friedrich von Eschscholtz was born in 1793 in Dorpat (today Tartu, Estonia) and died 1831 in Dorpat. Dr. Eschscholtz was in California 1816-24. The California Poppy was named after him.
