Elsene (Dutch) or Ixelles (French) is one of the nineteen municipalities located in the Brussels Capital Region of Belgium. On January 1st, 2000 the municipality had a total population of 73,174 (35,476 males and 37,698 females). The total area is 6.29 km² which gives a population density of 11,633.39 inhabitants per km².
