Ivor the Engine

Ivor the Engine was the first animation by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin. It started off in black and white and when remade became colour. Ivor is a steam train on a small railway in a corner of Wales. He turned out to be green. He works for the Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited. Ivor's owner was Jones the Steam (the reason for his name is people in Wales often have the same name such as Jones, Morgan or Evans, so they use their profession to define their surname) who has a very strong Welsh accent. In the first series Ivor gained three organ pipes in order to join the local choir, which was his ambition. Before that he just had a whistle, which would've been alright for a Chinese choir, but not a Welsh one. A lot of Ivor's job consisted of obtaining coal from the pits-which was done by trains in those days.
