Italic languages

Redirected from Italic language

The Italic family of the Indo-European language group had two branches:

  • Oscan or Umbrian - extinct languages not to be confused with modern Umbrian dialect of Italian
  • Latin - (SIL Code, LTN; ISO 639-1 code, la; ISO 639-2 code, lat)

Latin replaced all the others, and from so-called Vulgar Latin the Romance languages emerged.
