ITER

ITER is a proposed nuclear fusion reactor of the tokamak design, larger than any yet constructed. ITER originally stood for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor but this usage has been discontinued.

Ideally, it is proposed to run ITER in parallel with a materials test facility, the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility or IFMIR, and to follow both of these by a demonstration power plant, DEMO. A prototype plant to follow DEMO would be the first to produce commercial power.
