Israel/Arab/Palestinian

Battle of Yad-Mordechai 1948.

One of Israels first sniper was put in charge of rescuing Yad-Mordechai's residents from the oncoming Egyptian army regulars and Sudanese volunteers. He refused to be in sole charge of a hundred men , so two or three were put in charge. The next morning the Egyptians came, their armored vehicles were unable to traverse the rocky hill. On foot they were easy targets and suffered casualties in the hundreds, while the Israelis suffered a dozen or so casualties. They completed their mission and evac the residents.

The sniper had not known he was good with the rifle. He was picked(by the Palmach) with others to see what skills they had. He shot what he aimed at. He was brought to Jerusalem to save jews from arab snipers in the high trees. He did his job well. He once saw through the scope an arab sniper focusing on him?.well he fired first. His commander considered him his "Good luck charm"and was on his side when he had conflicts with the young Non-religious platoon leaders. he would pray in the morning and then go out with the men. when they confronted high ground or trees, they called on him to check it out first.he was not a big man and carried a few pistols on him for close encounters. He shot a tall sudanese in the head (from a foot or so) who was choking his friend with one hand while grabbing his sabre for the kill, his friend couldn't speak for days but recovered. Once his platoon overtook german mercenaries hired by the arabs. One Isr. id'd a german who had done horrible thinmgs to his townfolk. Cooler heads lost out to angry men who mercilessly did away with thr germans. HQ was angry and slapped them on the wrists.
