Iron Butterfly

Iron Butterfly is an American hard rock and psychedelic band, best known for their sole hit "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". The band was formed in 1966 (see 1966 in music) in San Diego and released their debut album, Heavy, in 1968 (see 1968 in music). The 17-minute "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" became a huge hit that spent over a year in the Top Ten. The follow-up, Ball[?], was less successful, and the band broke up in 1971 (see 1971 in music).
