A
ciliate taken from standing water. This is a stichotrich, something on the order of 300 μm long, crawling off to the left along the surface of the slide. There are dark red food
vacuoles spread throughout most of the cell, except for the section occupied by the mouth and contractile vacuole. The adoral membranelles are visible at the front nearby, and a series of long cirri along the posterior edge. The nearby sphere is a
green alga,
Haematococcus.
