Ilyushin Il-62

The Ilyushin Il-62 is a long range airliner which is similar in appearance to the Vickers VC-10[?], which was built in 1967. It has 4 rear-mounted engines in pairs.

It's one of the biggest aircraft without powered flight controls, moving surfaces being controlled by direct cable links.

It has a extra tailwheel below the tail to prevent it tilting backwards while loading.

The aircraft has special provisions for gear-up landings like a strengthened hull at the bottom, and a ski in the middle.

The Il-62M variant (introduced in 1970) has more powerful, more economical engines and an extra fuel tank fitted in the tail. Nearly all Il-62's in service today are Il-62M models.
