Illinois State University

Illinois State University, originally named Illinois State Normal University, was founded in 1857. Normal schools were schools specifically designated for the education of teachers.

The town of Normal, Illinois took its name from the school, only for the school to later drop normal as it became more diversified.

Illinois State University (http://www.ilstu.edu) remains a top school in teaching in Illinois.
