North Sea Canal

The North Sea Canal or Noordzeekanaal is a canal from Amsterdam to IJmuiden in the Netherlands. To the east, at Amsterdam, there is the IJ, then the Outer IJ.

Together there are the following connections:

Railroad tunnels (with nearest train station on the south and north bank):

Road tunnels, from east to west:

  • Zeeburger Tunnel and Zeeburger Bridge
  • Zuiderzeeweg
  • IJ Tunnel
  • Coen Tunnel
  • Wijker Tunnel
  • Velser Tunnel

Several ferries. In Amsterdam there are several across the IJ; at least one is frequent, operating 24 hours a day, free of charge.
