Idaho County, Idaho

Idaho County is a county located in the U.S. State of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 15,511. The county's county seat is Grangeville, Idaho6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 22,021 km² (8,502 mi²). 21,976 km² (8,485 mi²) of it is land and 46 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.21% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 15,511 people, 6,084 households, and 4,295 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 7,537 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.12% White, 0.08% African American, 2.89% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. 1.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,084 households out of which 29.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.80% are married couples living together, 6.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.40% are non-families. 25.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 6.30% from 18 to 24, 23.30% from 25 to 44, 28.40% from 45 to 64, and 17.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 103.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $29,515, and the median income for a family is $33,919. Males have a median income of $28,383 versus $18,214 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,411. 16.30% of the population and 12.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 21.00% are under the age of 18 and 10.00% are 65 or older.
