The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is a major part of the neuroendocrine system[?] that controls reactions to stress. It involves the interactions of the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the adrenal glands.

The HPA axis is believed to be involved in the neurobiology of mood disorders.
