How to perform in a play

It is important when taking part in a piece of theater not to take the play too likely-in other words don't muck around-and not to take the play too seriously-after all drama should be considered just like any other art form.

Some pieces of opera and drama are well known for the number of egos in a play. It is important not to lose your rag in a play, and if you do not in front of everybody. Should you be confronted with someone having a tantrum just wait till they calm down and talk to them calmly. If that fails, shout at them too.

It is important to be aware of the lack of space in a production, both backstage and onstage. A lot of people may also be rushing to get on stage and another group of people may be rushing to get off stage.

It is important to remember your cue and what side of the stage you enter from. It is also important that you have something to say (if you have something to say) when you enter-remember your lines. As well as your moves. And your personal props. And all your costume.

If its a funny play, or meant to be a funny play, keep going even if lines do not get laughs (especially if its Shakespeare). If the audience won't stop laughing, first pinch yourself and then wait a bit and continue. Don't wait too long.

Try not to look for friends and family in the audience please.

Watch out for the director-he may be watching you from the wings.

If you perform outside keep going even if it starts raining.

Above all, don't worry about everything.
