Hop Bottom, Pennsylvania

Hop Bottom is a borough located in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 333.

Geography Hop Bottom is located at 41°42'18" North, 75°45'56" West (41.704931, -75.765667)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 333 people, 128 households, and 93 families residing in the borough. The population density is 214.3/km² (553.1/mi²). There are 140 housing units at an average density of 90.1/km² (232.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.10% White, 2.40% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 0.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 128 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% are married couples living together, 10.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.04.

In the borough the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.2 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $32,656, and the median income for a family is $36,827. Males have a median income of $31,250 versus $13,750 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $17,208. 17.6% of the population and 10.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 28.7% are under the age of 18 and 18.8% are 65 or older.
