Honor Elizabeth Wainio

Honor Elizabeth Wainio (October 8, 1973 - September 11, 2001), retail district manager. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Catonsville, Maryland where she graduated from Catonsville High in 1991. In 1995 she earned her bachelor's degree in communications from Towson University in Maryland. She went on to work for the Discovery Channel Store and become one of their youngest district managers. In April of 2001 she moved to Watchung, New Jersey after a promotion.

Wainio died at 27 in the crash of United Airlines flight 93 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack. She was heading to a business meeting in San Francisco, California. Honor had just returned from a vacation in Europe where she had some troubles with her flights. Since she was scheduled on a flight that stopped in Denver, Colorado, she changed her reservations to a direct flight into San Francisco at the last minute. Wainio was able to borrow a phone from a fellow passenger and contact her stepmother during the attack.

She is survived by her father, Ben Wainio; mother, Mary White; stepmother, Esther Heymann; brother, Tom, 30; and sister, Sarah, 14.
