Holly Hill is a city located in Volusia County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,119.

Geography Holly Hill is located at 29°14'38" North, 81°2'47" West (29.243808, -81.046476)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²). 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.94% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 12,119 people, 5,583 households, and 2,998 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,202.9/km² (3,113.5/mi²). There are 6,148 housing units at an average density of 610.2/km² (1,579.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.10% White, 8.97% African American, 0.36% Native American, 1.00% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. 3.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,583 households out of which 22.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.9% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.3% are non-families. 36.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.14 and the average family size is 2.77.

In the city the population is spread out with 19.9% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $26,651, and the median income for a family is $29,154. Males have a median income of $25,946 versus $19,178 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,098. 16.5% of the population and 13.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 23.4% are under the age of 18 and 12.1% are 65 or older.
