The first Astute was an Amphion-class (also known as the "A" class) submarine. Her keel was laid down by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness[?]. She was launched in 1944 and commissioned in 1945.
Astute was scrapped on October 1, 1970 at Dunston on Tyne[?].
The second Astute was HMS Astute (S119), the lead ship of her class of nuclear-powered attack submarines. She was laid down on January 31, 2001, and had not yet been launched in February of 2003.
