Heuvelton, New York

Heuvelton is a village located in St. Lawrence County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 804.

Geography Heuvelton is located at 44°37'6" North, 75°24'22" West (44.618334, -75.406064)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.34% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 804 people, 313 households, and 213 families residing in the village. The population density is 403.2/km² (1,042.5/mi²). There are 332 housing units at an average density of 166.5/km² (430.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.39% White, 0.62% African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. 0.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 313 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the village the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 86.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $34,375, and the median income for a family is $38,056. Males have a median income of $30,114 versus $20,982 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,276. 13.7% of the population and 11.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 21.6% are under the age of 18 and 10.1% are 65 or older.
