Herbert von Karajan

Herbert von Karajan (April 5, 1908 - July 16, 1989) was a noted conductor, one of the best known in classical music for much of the 20th century.

Von Karajan was born in Salzburg, Austria. He was closely involved with the Vienna Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and La Scala in Milan. He is best known, however, for his work with the Berlin Philharmonic which he built into what is probably today the world's best orchestra.
