Head over Heels is an August
1983 (see
1983 in music) album by British
synth pop group, the
Cocteau Twins. The album was their first as a duo.
Head over Heels is a mix of sonic textures, melodies and harmonies. Though the album's popularity has always been limited, its critical acceptance is virtually absolute, and its influence on countless future musicians well-documented. The album can be seen as the origin of much of the
Britpop boom of the mid-
1990s, and many of the styles which preceeded it, including
shoegazing,
twee pop and
space rock.
