Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 117.0 km² (45.2 mi²). 116.3 km² (44.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.53% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,000 people, 3,775 households, and 2,536 families residing in the township. The population density is 77.4/km² (200.3/mi²). There are 4,002 housing units at an average density of 34.4/km² (89.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.67% White, 0.17% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.38% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,775 households out of which 25.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% are married couples living together, 11.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% are non-families. 29.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
