Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. State of Ohio. As of 2000, the population is 71,295. Its county seat is Findlay6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,382 km² (534 mi²). 1,376 km² (531 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.42% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 71,295 people, 27,898 households, and 19,138 families residing in the county. The population density is 52/km² (134/mi²). There are 29,785 housing units at an average density of 22/km² (56/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.14% White, 1.11% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.22% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.22% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 3.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 27,898 households out of which 32.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.40% are married couples living together, 8.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.40% are non-families. 26.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.70% under the age of 18, 9.70% from 18 to 24, 28.70% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 13.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $43,856, and the median income for a family is $51,490. Males have a median income of $37,139 versus $24,374 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,991. 7.50% of the population and 5.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.80% are under the age of 18 and 6.10% are 65 or older.
