The town Hammerfest in the county of Finnmark, Norway, sits on Kval Island (or Kvaløy[?]), and is the northernmost town in Europe. Its industry revolves around the fishing and whaling fleets that operate in the Kara Sea, as well as the export of fox and raindeer skins.
It has 9,020 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002.
