Hamlin is a city located in Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,248.

Geography Hamlin is located at 32°53'12" North, 100°7'31" West (32.886690, -100.125207)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,248 people, 924 households, and 623 families residing in the city. The population density is 163.1/km² (422.4/mi²). There are 1,090 housing units at an average density of 79.1/km² (204.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 79.58% White, 6.23% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 11.48% from other races, and 1.73% from two or more races. 20.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 924 households out of which 29.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 31.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 21.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $25,873, and the median income for a family is $33,667. Males have a median income of $25,887 versus $16,350 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,308. 20.7% of the population and 13.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 27.6% are under the age of 18 and 21.2% are 65 or older.
