Hamilton tariff

The Hamilton Tariff of 1789 was one of the first bills established by the new United States government. Revenue tariff of 5 to 15 percent established protectionism even though as yet there was almost no industry to protect. See Alexander Hamilton's Report on Manufactures[?].
