Gustav Vigeland

Gustav Vigeland, Norwegian sculptor, was born on April 11, 1869, in Mandal - a small coastal town in the southern part of Norway.

Started out studying woodcrafting and reading at a local school in the beginning of the 1880s, and in 1884-1885 he was an apprentice to a professional woodcarver.

Later on he impressed the sculptor Brynjulf Bergslien[?], who took him into his studio and gave him practical training.

Gustav Vigeland is known for the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo, the capital of Norway.

He died on March 12, 1943.
