Great Neck Gardens, New York

Great Neck Gardens is an unincorporated area of the Town of North Hempstead, New York located on the Great Neck peninsula of Nassau County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the area had a total population of 1,089. The name Great Neck Gardens, once proposed for an incorporated village, is rarely used as the area has never in fact been incorporated.

Geography Great Neck Gardens is located at 40°47'52" North, 73°43'19" West (40.797697, -73.721899)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,089 people, 376 households, and 327 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,473.3/km² (6,467.8/mi²). There are 381 housing units at an average density of 865.3/km² (2,262.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 89.35% White, 0.83% African American, 0.00% Native American, 7.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.65% from two or more races. 2.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 376 households out of which 41.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.5% are married couples living together, 6.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.0% are non-families. 12.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.90 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the town the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 21.2% from 25 to 44, 30.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $124,175, and the median income for a family is $142,915. Males have a median income of $94,401 versus $56,071 for females. The per capita income for the town is $49,317. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
