Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 657 people, 270 households, and 190 families residing in the town. The population density is 461.2/km² (1,199.3/mi²). There are 316 housing units at an average density of 221.8/km² (576.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 90.87% White, 7.76% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 270 households out of which 27.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
