Grafton County is a county located in the U.S. State of New Hampshire. As of 2000, the population is 81,743. Its county seat is Woodsville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,533 km² (1,750 mi²). 4,438 km² (1,713 mi²) of it is land and 95 km² (37 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.10% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 81,743 people, 31,598 households, and 20,254 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km² (48/mi²). There are 43,729 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (26/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.76% White, 0.53% African American, 0.31% Native American, 1.73% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,598 households out of which 29.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.40% are married couples living together, 8.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.90% are non-families. 27.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the county the population is spread out with 21.90% under the age of 18, 13.50% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 24.20% from 45 to 64, and 13.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $41,962, and the median income for a family is $50,424. Males have a median income of $31,874 versus $25,286 for females. The per capita income for the county is $22,227. 8.60% of the population and 5.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.60% are under the age of 18 and 7.50% are 65 or older.
