Goshen County, Wyoming

Goshen County is a county located in the State of Wyoming. As of 2000, the population is 12,538. Its county seat is Torrington6.

History Goshen County was organized in 1911.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 5,781 km² (2,232 mi²). 5,764 km² (2,225 mi²) of it is land and 18 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 12,538 people, 5,061 households, and 3,426 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (6/mi²). There are 5,881 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.83% White, 0.20% African American, 0.86% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 3.65% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 8.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,061 households out of which 28.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.70% are married couples living together, 7.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.30% are non-families. 27.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.20% under the age of 18, 9.40% from 18 to 24, 24.30% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 17.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 98.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $32,228, and the median income for a family is $40,297. Males have a median income of $27,713 versus $17,584 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,965. 13.90% of the population and 9.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.30% are under the age of 18 and 12.50% are 65 or older.
