Goro Shimura

Goro Shimura (1930 -), Japanese-American mathematician.

Shimura was a colleague and a friend of Yutaka Taniyama. He is mostly known through the important Taniyama-Shimura conjecture, which implied the famous Fermat's last theorem as a special case.
