Gore Township, Michigan

Gore Township is a township located in Huron County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 139.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 17.7 km² (6.8 mi²). 17.5 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.17% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 139 people, 62 households, and 40 families residing in the township. The population density is 7.9/km² (20.5/mi²). There are 176 housing units at an average density of 10.0/km² (26.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.56% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 2.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 62 households out of which 21.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% are non-families. 30.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.78.

In the township the population is spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 0.7% from 18 to 24, 17.3% from 25 to 44, 38.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $25,625, and the median income for a family is $45,417. Males have a median income of $36,875 versus $13,750 for females. The per capita income for the township is $19,401. 16.5% of the population and 22.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.7% are under the age of 18 and 50.0% are 65 or older.
