Göran Persson, Swedish politican, born January 20, 1949. Current Prime Minister of Sweden and the leader of the Social Democrat Party.

Göran Persson has a back ground as a politican in the small municipality of Katrineholm, where he was the head of municipal government or kommunalråd. In the late 1980s he was made Minister of Schools, until the election in 1991 when the Social Democrats had to leave government. Upon returning to government in 1994 he was made Minister of Finance, a post he held until 1996, when he succeded Ingvar Carlsson as Prime Minister and party leader.
