Good News Translation

The Good News Translation (GNT for short) is an English language translation of the Bible by the American Bible Society[?]. It was first published in 1976 and revised in 1992. The translation of the New Testament in the 1976 edition had been published ten years earlier under the title Good News for Modern Man: The New Testament in Today's English Version, known as the TEV. A translation of the apocrypha followed in 1979.

The GNT is written in a simple, everyday language, with the intention that everyone can appreciate it, and so is often considered particularly suitable for children. It aims at accuracy and faithfulness to the meaning found in the original Aramaic and Hebrew Scriptures, although it is sometimes criticized as being a translation into modern English from the King James bible. The translators have produced a very readable translation but the wording can be simplistic and the text lacks the extensive footnotes found in many other translations. There is an introduction to each book and frequent illustrations in a very distinctive flowing style. The GNT has been adopted as the standard for many Protestant churches.
