Golden Valley County is a county located in the U.S. State of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 1,042. Its county seat is Ryegate6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,047 km² (1,176 mi²). 3,044 km² (1,175 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,042 people, 365 households, and 263 families residing in the county. The population density is 0/km² (1/mi²). There are 450 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (0/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 99.14% White, 0.00% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.19% from two or more races. 1.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 365 households out of which 26.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.80% are married couples living together, 3.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.90% are non-families. 24.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 5.90% from 18 to 24, 23.00% from 25 to 44, 27.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 107.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $27,308, and the median income for a family is $35,000. Males have a median income of $14,028 versus $19,063 for females. The per capita income for the county is $13,573. 25.80% of the population and 16.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 20.40% are under the age of 18 and 21.60% are 65 or older.
