GNU Savannah

GNU Savannah is based on the same software as that used by VA Software to run their popular Sourceforge portal.

However, as of version 3.0 of the sourceforge software, the software itself is no longer open source. This worried many users, that they were involved in open source projects hosted on software that was not itself open source. Therefore, some people, lead by Loïc Dachary took the previous version of sourceforge, 2.6, and split it to create the Savannah project.

The Savannah project is now an open source hosting site similar to sourceforge.
