Glencoe, Alabama

Glencoe is a city located in Calhoun County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 5,152.

Geography Glencoe is located at 33°57'11.333" North, 85°56'9.125" West (33.953148, -85.935868).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 41.8 km² (16.1 mi²). 41.6 km² (16.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,152 people, 2,000 households, and 1,526 families residing in the city. The population density is 123.8/km² (320.6/mi²). There are 2,132 housing units at an average density of 51.2/km² (132.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.93% White, 1.73% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,000 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.7% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $38,385, and the median income for a family is $46,283. Males have a median income of $31,893 versus $26,652 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,577. 6.7% of the population and 4.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.0% are under the age of 18 and 7.2% are 65 or older.
